Comprehensive Program
Our Classical Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training Program is a minimum of ten months and requires in person study including ten monthly weekend seminars and 30 one-hour weekly practicums. Toward the end of the first semester, candidates will be required to practice teach lesson during weekend seminar. These practice sessions will count toward the required teaching hours. Students should expect to dedicate a minimum of 10 – 15 hours per week towards their homework, self-practice, observation and mentorship requirements.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Lectures and Practicums: 120 hours**
Required weekly classes with Qualified Teacher Trainer: 60 hours*
Practice Teaching: 135 hours***
Self-Practice: 75 hours****
Observation of a qualified teacher: 100 hours (80 live or live/virtual)*****
Observation of student teaching by teacher trainer: 20 hours
Assisted teaching with teacher trainer: 20 hours
Homework: 50 hours
Written and Practical Exams: 12 hours
Mentorship Requirements: 8 hours

Weeknd seminars (150 hours) and weekly practicums (30 hours) cover History of Pilates, Anatomy, Special Populations, Teaching/Cueing, Reformer, Mat, Wunda Chair, Arm Chair Barrels, Cadillac/Tower, Magic Circle, Ped-O-Pull, and ancillary apparatus. The course content prepares you for the PMA certification process.

Candidates are required to complete 60 personal lessons with the teacher trainer, not included with tuition. All teacher candidates receive 20% off of classes, passes and memberships at Ridgway Pilates.

Weekend seminars will include practice teaching up to 10 hours. Student teachers may have the opportunity to teach weekday community classes at Ridgway Pilates that also count toward the live teaching requirement. Teacher candidates are paid at an hourly apprentice rate for publicly offered Community Classes, but not for weekend seminar teaching or self-organized practice teaching. Candidates will need to schedule some their own unpaid practice teaching hours, dependent on how many community classes you teach per week and have use of the studio to complete those hours.

Teacher candidates may use the Ridgway Pilates studio “Old School Workout” hours for self-practice and student teaching at no addition cost. Times and days TBD.

Observational hours must be completed with fully qualified teachers, authorized by the program. All hours will be tracked using the program’s observation forms. Some hours may by completed by observing Classical teachers at Pilatesology. A different form will be used for video observations.
